Life Attacks

The year was 1992, and tragedy struck the peaceful city of Amritsar, Punjab, when a car bombing attack claimed the lives of 13 innocent souls. Among the wounded were Maninderjeet Bitta and his close friend, Sardar Charanjit Singh Bedi. Their lives were forever altered by the senseless act of terror, each bearing the physical and emotional scars of that fateful day.

The nightmare continued on 11 September 1993, when Bitta narrowly escaped another deadly attack at the Indian Youth Congress premises on Raisina Road in New Delhi. As he left his office in a car, a devastating blast tore through the area, leaving a trail of destruction and death. Tragically, his two bodyguards lost their lives, and Bitta himself sustained shrapnel wounds to his chest.

The aftermath was chaotic and tragic, with burning wreckage and debris scattered across the vicinity near Parliament and other government buildings. Emergency responders struggled to extract mangled bodies from the wreckage, while smoke filled the air and bystanders were caught in the chaos.

The perpetrators of these heinous acts were identified as members of the Khalistan Liberation Force, with Devinder Pal Singh Bhullar named as one of the masterminds. Bhullar was later convicted and sentenced to death by hanging, a decision that followed years of legal proceedings and appeals.

In a surprising turn of events, the Supreme Court of India commuted Bhullar’s death sentence to life imprisonment in March 2014, citing prolonged delays in the decision-making process by the President. Despite this legal twist, Bitta found solace in knowing that justice, though delayed, had eventually been served.

These traumatic experiences only strengthened Bitta’s resolve to combat terrorism and uphold the values of peace and unity in India. His courage and resilience in the face of such adversity serve as a powerful testament to his unwavering commitment to the nation’s safety and security.

As a result of these targeted attacks, Maninderjeet Singh Bitta was granted lifetime Z-category security protection. This level of security is reserved for individuals facing imminent threats to their lives, ensuring round-the-clock protection akin to high-profile political figures.
